This It Won't Last Cake is a perfect combination of moist cake layers, creamy frosting, and a delightful crunch from the nuts. The addition of chocolate chips takes this classic recipe to a whole new level of deliciousness!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and mix until well combined.
  4. Stir in boiling water until the batter is smooth.
  5. Fold in chopped nuts and chocolate chips.
  6. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove and cool completely on wire racks.
  8. To make the frosting, beat butter in a mixing bowl until smooth.
  9. Gradually add powdered sugar and continue to beat until fluffy.
  10. Add heavy cream and vanilla extract and beat until well combined.
  11. Spread a layer of frosting on top of one of the cake layers, then place the second layer on top and frost the entire cake.
