Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • Salt, to taste
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 4 slices American cheese
  • Lettuce, tomato, pickles, and other desired condiments

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the buttermilk, garlic powder, smoked paprika, onion powder, and black pepper. Whisk to combine.
  2. Add the chicken breasts to the marinade and let them sit for 15 minutes.
  3. In a shallow dish, combine the flour and salt. Dip the chicken breasts into the flour mixture, coating them evenly on both sides.
  4. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the chicken breasts and cook for 4-5 minutes per side, or until the chicken is golden brown and cooked through.
  5. Remove the chicken breasts from the pan and set aside to rest. Toast the hamburger buns in the skillet, if desired.
  6. Assemble the sandwiches: spread melted butter on the inside of each bun, top with a slice of cheese, a chicken breast, lettuce, tomato, and pickles. Serve immediately.
