Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups sauerkraut, drained
  • 2 cups cooked corned beef, chopped
  • 2 cups Swiss cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup rye bread crumbs

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  3. Whisk in the flour and cook until golden, about 1 minute.
  4. Slowly whisk in the milk and continue to whisk until the mixture is thick and bubbly. Remove from the heat.
  5. Stir in the garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  6. In a large bowl, combine the sauerkraut, corned beef, and Swiss cheese.
  7. Pour in the sauce and mix until everything is combined.
  8. Pour the mixture into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.
  9. Sprinkle the bread crumbs evenly over the top of the casserole.
  10. Bake for 30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
