Drain the pickles in a colander and rinse with cold water.
In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar, vinegar, water, garlic, and red pepper flakes. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring until the sugar is dissolved.
Add the pickles and simmer for 5 minutes.
Remove from the heat and let cool to room temperature.
Transfer to a glass jar and store in the refrigerator for up to 1 month.
