Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9 inch round cake pan.
In a large bowl, cream together 1/2 cup butter and white sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla. Combine flour, baking powder and salt; stir into the creamed mixture alternately with the milk. Spread evenly into the prepared pan.
In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, cinnamon and 2 tablespoons butter. Sprinkle over the top of the cake batter.
Bake for 35 to 40 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Allow to cool for 10 minutes before removing from the pan.
