Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup turbinado sugar (or granulated sugar)

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F. Grease a 9-inch tart pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and baking powder. Add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture and stir to combine.
  4. Press the dough into the prepared tart pan, making sure to press it into the corners and up the sides.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg, remaining 1/2 cup of sugar, 2 tablespoons of flour, cream, and vanilla extract.
  6. Pour the custard into the tart shell and spread evenly.
  7. Sprinkle the turbinado sugar over the top of the tart.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes, until the tart is golden brown and the custard is set.
  9. Let cool before serving.
