Ingredients

  • 4 cups fresh or frozen tart cherries, pitted
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease a 9-inch square baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, stir together the cherries, flour, white sugar, butter, baking powder, and salt. Spread into the prepared baking dish.
  3. In a small bowl, mix the milk, vanilla extract, cornstarch, and water. Pour over the cherry mixture.
  4. Sprinkle the brown sugar over the top. Bake in preheated oven for 40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
