Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and diced
  • 1/2 cup ice water
  • 6-7 medium apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 egg, beaten

Directions

  1. In a food processor, combine flour and butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. Slowly add ice water and mix until dough comes together. Divide dough in two, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  3. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  4. In a large bowl, toss apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  5. Roll out one dough disk and place in bottom of pie dish. Add apple filling.
  6. Roll out second dough disk and place on top of pie. Trim excess dough and crimp edges.
  7. Brush top crust with beaten egg and make slits for steam to escape.
  8. Bake for 45-50 minutes, until crust is golden and filling is bubbly.
  9. Let cool before serving. Enjoy with whipped cream or ice cream!
