Ingredients
- 1 lb beef (sirloin steak, flank steak, or skirt steak)
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup Chinese rice wine or sake
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger
- 2 tablespoons chili paste or chili garlic sauce
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 red bell pepper, cut into strips
- 1 onion, cut into wedges
- 2 carrots, cut into matchsticks
- 1/4 cup chicken stock or water
- 1/4 cup roasted peanuts, chopped (optional)
Directions
- In a medium bowl, combine the beef, soy sauce, rice wine, sesame oil, cornstarch, garlic, and ginger. Mix until the beef is evenly coated and let marinate for 15 minutes.
- Heat a wok or large skillet over high heat. Add the vegetable oil and swirl to coat the pan. Add the marinated beef and stir-fry for 3 minutes, until lightly browned.
- Add the bell pepper, onion, and carrots and stir-fry for another 3 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Add the chili paste and chicken stock and stir-fry for 2 minutes more, until the vegetables are tender.
- Stir in the peanuts, if using, and serve over steamed rice.
