Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes
  • 1 (15 ounce) can black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 (4 ounce) can diced green chilies
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 cup beef broth

Directions

  1. Heat oil in a large pot over medium-high heat.
  2. Add onion and garlic and cook, stirring, until softened, about 3 minutes.
  3. Add ground beef and cook, stirring and breaking up the beef with a wooden spoon, until browned, about 6 minutes.
  4. Add diced tomatoes, black beans, green chilies, chili powder, cumin, oregano, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
  5. Add beef broth and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 15 minutes.
  6. Serve with your favorite toppings.
