1 cup chopped dried fruits (such as apricots, cherries, cranberries, dates, figs, or raisins)
1 cup chopped walnuts
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9x5 inch loaf pan.
In a medium bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Set aside.
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Beat in the flour mixture alternately with the buttermilk. Fold in the dried fruits and walnuts.
Pour batter into prepared loaf pan. Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the loaf comes out clean. Allow to cool in pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
