Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 cup diced onion
  • 1/2 cup diced celery
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 1 pound split peas
  • 2 cups diced ham
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

  1. In a large pot over medium-high heat, heat the olive oil. Add the onion, celery, and garlic and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  2. Add the broth and split peas and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and simmer, uncovered, for 20 minutes.
  3. Add the ham and simmer for an additional 10 minutes.
  4. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Serve hot.
