  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 tablespoons sugar

  • 1 egg white, beaten

Directions

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm milk and sugar. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Sprinkle yeast over the milk mixture and let it sit for about 5 minutes or until foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and beaten egg. Stir until a dough forms. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  3. Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover it with a clean kitchen towel. Let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Punch down the dough to release the air. Divide the dough into 8 equal portions and shape each portion into a ball. Place the balls on a greased baking sheet, leaving enough space between each ball. Cover with a kitchen towel and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  5. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Brush the risen buns with beaten egg white and sprinkle sesame seeds or poppy seeds on top, if desired. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
