Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup vegetable shortening
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
  3. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles fine crumbs.
  4. Add in milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract, and mix until dough forms a soft ball.
  5. Turn out onto a lightly floured surface and knead lightly.
  6. Roll out to 1/2-inch thickness and cut into circles.
  7. Place on ungreased baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
