Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup strong brewed coffee
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped Serrano peppers
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time.
  3. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, alternating with the buttermilk and coffee.
  4. Stir in the Serrano peppers and chocolate chips. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
  5. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before turning out onto a wire rack.
  6. Serve warm with a dollop of whipped cream.
