Ingredients

  • 1/2 pound thinly sliced beef (about 6 slices)
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 4 slices bacon, cut in half
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1/4 cup chopped dill pickles
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Directions

  1. Lay the beef slices on a work surface and spread each piece with a thin layer of mustard.
  2. Divide the bacon, onion, and pickles among the beef slices, placing the ingredients in the center of each slice.
  3. Roll up each slice and secure with a toothpick.
  4. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the beef rolls. Cook until browned on all sides, about 5 minutes.
  5. Add the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce and bring to a simmer. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes.
  6. Remove the lid and simmer for an additional 5 minutes to reduce the sauce.
  7. Remove the toothpicks and season with salt and pepper, to taste.
  8. Serve the rouladen with mashed potatoes or egg noodles.
