Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cans black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup water

Directions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and cook until softened, about 3 minutes.
  2. Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  3. Add the black beans, cumin, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine and cook for 2 minutes.
  4. Add the water and bring to a simmer. Simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Using a potato masher, mash the beans until the desired consistency is reached.
  6. Serve warm.
