Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 1 jalapeno pepper, diced
  • 1 (15-ounce) can diced tomatoes
  • 1 (14.5-ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 (4-ounce) can diced green chiles
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 (15-ounce) can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 (15-ounce) can pinto beans, drained and rinsed
  • Optional toppings: diced red onion, shredded cheese, sour cream, chopped cilantro

Directions

  1. In a large pot or Dutch oven, brown the ground beef over medium heat for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  2. Add the onion, garlic, bell pepper, and jalapeno pepper and cook for an additional 5 minutes, until vegetables are softened.
  3. Add the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, green chiles, chili powder, cumin, oregano, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
  4. Bring the chili to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Add the kidney beans and pinto beans and continue to simmer for an additional 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Serve warm with your favorite toppings.
