Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 3/4 cup molasses
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg and mix until combined.
  3. Add molasses and mix until combined.
  4. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, nutmeg, and salt. Gradually add to the butter mixture and mix until combined.
  5. Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and place on the prepared baking sheets. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until lightly golden. Cool on baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
