Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9-inch round cake pan and set aside.
In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
In a separate bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beating until smooth.
Spread batter into the prepared pan. Arrange peaches over top of batter. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into center comes out clean.
In a medium bowl, beat whipping cream until soft peaks form. Add powdered sugar and continue beating until stiff peaks form.
Serve warm cake with a dollop of whipped cream.
