Ingredients

  • 1 loaf day-old French bread, cut into 1-inch thick slices
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • Optional toppings: whipped cream, powdered sugar, syrup

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix together the brown sugar, molasses, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and allspice. Set aside.
  3. In a shallow dish, whisk together eggs and milk. Set aside.
  4. Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, coating both sides. Place on a baking sheet.
  5. Spoon the molasses mixture over each slice, ensuring both sides are evenly covered.
  6. Drizzle each slice with melted butter.
  7. Bake in preheated oven for 10-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
