Ingredients

  • 2 cups of rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup of molasses
  • 2 1/2 cups of warm water
  • 3 tablespoons of active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • 2 teaspoons of salt
  • 3 tablespoons of melted butter
  • 6 cups of all-purpose flour

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the rolled oats, molasses, warm water, yeast, sugar, and salt. Stir until combined.
  2. Add the melted butter and stir until combined.
  3. Gradually add the flour, 1 cup at a time, stirring until combined after each addition.
  4. Once all of the flour has been added, knead the dough for 10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a large greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise for 1 hour.
  6. Punch down the dough and knead for an additional 5 minutes.
  7. Divide the dough into 2 equal portions and shape into loaves.
  8. Place the loaves on a greased baking sheet and cover with a damp cloth. Let rise for an additional 30 minutes.
  9. Preheat the oven to 350°F and bake the loaves for 30 minutes, or until golden brown.
  10. Remove from the oven and let cool before serving.
