Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1/4 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 12 sheets phyllo dough

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, onion, cumin, coriander, cinnamon, ginger, cayenne pepper, salt, parsley, cilantro, bread crumbs, and egg.
  2. Mix together until all ingredients are evenly distributed.
  3. Form the mixture into 12 cigar shapes.
  4. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
  5. Add the cigars to the skillet and cook for 5 minutes, turning occasionally to brown evenly.
  6. Remove from heat and let cool for 10 minutes.
  7. Lay out the phyllo dough on a flat surface.
  8. Place one cooled cigar in the center of a sheet of phyllo dough.
  9. Fold one side of the dough over the cigar, then the other side, and then roll up like a burrito.
  10. Repeat with the remaining cigars.
  11. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
  12. Place the cigars on a greased baking sheet and brush with the remaining olive oil.
  13. Bake for 15-20 minutes, until the phyllo dough is golden brown.
