  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) butter, softened
  • 1 cup (250 mL) packed light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup (250 mL) mashed ripe bananas (about 3 bananas)
  • 1/4 cup (60 mL) molasses
  • 2 cups (500 mL) all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons (10 mL) baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 mL) baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 mL) ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon (1 mL) ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon (1 mL) salt


  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease a 9x5-inch (2 L) loaf pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in eggs, one at a time, until blended. Stir in bananas and molasses until combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt.
  5. Add to the banana mixture and stir until just combined. Pour batter into prepared pan.
  6. Bake in preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into center of the loaf comes out clean.
  7. Cool in pan for 10 minutes before removing to cool completely.
