Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup softened butter
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  • 1 egg

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. In a medium bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Stir in the maple syrup and cinnamon. In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, stirring until blended. Add the cold water and mix until the dough is smooth.
  3. On a lightly floured work surface, roll out the dough into a large rectangle. Cut into 24 3-inch squares. Place the squares into muffin tins and press the dough up the sides.
  4. In a small bowl, beat together the egg and 1 tablespoon of water. Brush the egg mixture onto the pastry. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, or until golden brown. Allow to cool before serving.
