Ingredients

  • 2 packages active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup candied fruit
  • 1/2 cup chopped blanched almonds
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1/4 cup confectioners' sugar

Directions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Let stand for 10 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, combine sugar, melted butter, salt, eggs, and yeast mixture. Beat until smooth.
  3. Add flour, raisins, candied fruit, and almonds. Mix until combined.
  4. Knead dough for 5 minutes on a lightly floured surface or in a stand mixer until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  6. Punch down dough and divide in half. Shape each half into a round loaf and place on a greased baking sheet.
  7. Cover and let rise until doubled in size, about 45 minutes.
  8. Bake in a preheated 350°F oven for 25 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with confectioners' sugar.
