Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon oregano
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 3/4 cup tomato puree
- 3/4 cup distilled white vinegar
- 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Directions
- Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium-high heat.
- Add the onion and garlic and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Add the cumin, chili powder, smoked paprika, oregano, cayenne, and black pepper and cook for 1 minute.
- Add the tomato puree, vinegar, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and salt and stir to combine.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 15 minutes.
- Remove from the heat and let cool for 10 minutes.
- Transfer the mixture to a blender and blend until smooth.
- Transfer the sauce to a jar and store in the refrigerator for up to 1 month.
