Irish Whiskey BBQ Sauce

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup Irish whiskey
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Directions

  1. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  2. Add the ketchup, whiskey, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, smoked paprika, garlic powder and black pepper. Stir to combine.
  3. Increase the heat to medium-high and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Remove from the heat and let cool slightly before serving.
