Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the 1/2 cup butter and 1 cup sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
  3. Combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt; stir into the creamed mixture alternately with the buttermilk.
  4. Spread batter into prepared pan. Bake for 25 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  5. In a medium saucepan, melt the 1/2 cup butter. Stir in the honey, brown sugar, and 1/4 cup water. Bring to a boil, and cook for 5 minutes.
  6. Pour over the prepared cake, and spread evenly.
  7. Bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until top is golden brown.
  8. Allow cake to cool before serving.
