Indulge in this classic dessert with a buttery, flaky shortcake topped with juicy strawberries and fluffy whipped cream. Perfect for picnics, BBQs, or any summer gathering.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 4 cups sliced strawberries
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Add milk and stir until dough comes together.
  4. Turn dough out onto a floured surface and knead gently. Pat dough into a 1-inch thick circle. Cut out shortcakes using a biscuit cutter.
  5. Place shortcakes on a baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  6. In a bowl, combine strawberries and sugar. Let sit for 30 minutes to macerate.
  7. In a separate bowl, beat heavy cream with sugar and vanilla until stiff peaks form.
  8. To assemble, slice shortcakes in half horizontally. Spoon strawberries over the bottom half, top with whipped cream, and place the other half on top. Serve immediately.
  9. Enjoy the delightful combination of sweet, juicy strawberries and creamy whipped cream on a buttery shortcake!
