Ingredients

  • 6 slices whole wheat bread, cubed
  • 3 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 cups low-fat milk
  • 1/4 cup raisins (optional)
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch (23 cm) square baking dish with butter.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the bread cubes, eggs, honey, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Stir in the milk and mix until everything is combined.
  3. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and top with raisins and walnuts, if desired.
  4. Bake for 30 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  5. Remove from oven and let cool for 10 minutes before serving.
