Ingredients

  • 1/2 pound spaghetti
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 (14.5-ounce) can diced tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese, plus more for serving

Directions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the spaghetti according to the package instructions.
  2. Meanwhile, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the onion and garlic and cook, stirring, until the onion is softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the red pepper flakes and cook for 1 minute. Add the tomatoes and parsley and season with salt and pepper, to taste. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes.
  4. Drain the pasta and add it to the skillet with the sauce. Add the Parmesan cheese and stir to combine. Serve with additional Parmesan cheese, if desired.
