Ingredients
- 1 cup red lentils
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 green chili, finely chopped
- 1-inch piece of ginger, grated
- 1 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
- Salt to taste
- 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
- 2 tablespoons chickpea flour (besan)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Lemon wedges, for serving
Directions
- Rinse the red lentils under cold water until the water runs clear. Soak them in water for 20 minutes.
- Drain the lentils and transfer them to a blender. Add chopped onion, minced garlic, green chili, grated ginger, cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, salt, and cilantro to the blender.
- Blend the mixture until smooth. If needed, add a little water to achieve a thick, smooth batter-like consistency.
- Transfer the lentil batter to a bowl and add chickpea flour. Mix well to combine all the ingredients.
- Preheat the grill to medium heat. Brush the grill grates with olive oil to prevent sticking.
- Take a portion of the lentil batter and shape it into a small patty. Repeat with the remaining batter.
- Place the lentil fritters on the preheated grill and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
