This old-fashioned butter roll recipe has been passed down through generations in my family. It consists of a flaky, buttery dough rolled up with a sweet butter and sugar filling, baked until golden and served warm with a drizzle of vanilla sauce. It's the perfect treat for a cozy night in or a special occasion.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a baking dish.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, cold butter, water, and salt. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Roll out the dough into a rectangle on a floured surface.
  4. Spread softened butter over the dough and sprinkle it with sugar.
  5. Roll up the dough tightly to form a log and cut into slices.
  6. Place the slices in the prepared baking dish and bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. While the butter rolls are baking, heat milk, cream, sugar, and vanilla in a saucepan until warm.
  8. Serve the warm butter rolls with the vanilla sauce drizzled on top.
  9. Enjoy your Grandma's Old-Fashioned Butter Rolls!
