This old-fashioned butter roll recipe has been passed down through generations in my family. It consists of a flaky, buttery dough rolled up with a sweet butter and sugar filling, baked until golden and served warm with a drizzle of vanilla sauce. It's the perfect treat for a cozy night in or a special occasion.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1/2 cup cold water
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a baking dish.
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour, cold butter, water, and salt. Mix until a dough forms.
- Roll out the dough into a rectangle on a floured surface.
- Spread softened butter over the dough and sprinkle it with sugar.
- Roll up the dough tightly to form a log and cut into slices.
- Place the slices in the prepared baking dish and bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
- While the butter rolls are baking, heat milk, cream, sugar, and vanilla in a saucepan until warm.
- Serve the warm butter rolls with the vanilla sauce drizzled on top.
