Ingredients
- 1 9-inch unbaked pie crust
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 6 cups peeled, cored and sliced apples
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/2 cup apple juice
- 1 egg white
- 1 tablespoon sugar
Directions
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
- In a large bowl, combine sugar, cornstarch, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Add apples and stir until apples are coated with mixture.
- Spoon apple mixture into a 9-inch iron skillet.
- Dot with butter and sprinkle with lemon juice.
- Pour apple juice over the top.
- Roll out remaining pie crust and place on top of the apple mixture.
- Seal and flute edges. Cut slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
- In a small bowl, beat egg white until foamy. Brush over crust. Sprinkle with sugar.
- Bake in preheated oven for 40 to 50 minutes, or until crust is golden brown.
- Cool before serving.
