Ingredients

  • 1 bottle of dry red wine
  • 1/4 cup of sugar

  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 4 cloves
  • 1 star anise
  • 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon of ginger

Directions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the red wine, sugar, orange zest and juice, cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise, nutmeg, and ginger.
  2. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the mixture steep for 10 minutes.
  4. Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into mugs or glasses.
  5. Serve the Gluehwein warm or cold.
