Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 red bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 4 cups coconut milk
  • 1 teaspoon fish sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 pounds of fresh crabs, cleaned and halved
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

  1. In a large saucepan, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the garlic, onion, and bell pepper. Saute until the vegetables are softened.
  2. Add the tomatoes and ground ginger. Cook until the tomatoes are softened and the mixture is fragrant.
  3. Add the coconut milk, fish sauce, and sugar. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes.
  4. Add the crabs and season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  5. Serve the Ginataang Alimasag with hot steamed rice or boiled vegetables.
