Ingredients

  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup espresso
  • 1/2 cup ladyfingers
  • Cocoa powder for garnish
  • Chocolate shavings for garnish

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. In a medium bowl, beat together eggs and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add in the flour and melted butter and mix until combined.
  4. Pour the batter into a greased 9” round cake pan and bake for 20 minutes.
  5. Meanwhile, in a medium saucepan, heat the milk, vanilla extract, and nutmeg over medium heat until just boiling. Remove from heat and set aside.
  6. Once the cake is done baking, let cool for 10 minutes. Cut into slices and place in the bottom of a 9” round serving dish.
  7. Soak the ladyfingers in the espresso and then layer them over the cake slices.
  8. Pour the custard over the cake and ladyfingers and spread evenly.
  9. Sprinkle with cocoa powder and chocolate shavings.
  10. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving.
