Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 cups fresh cherries, pitted and halved
  • 1/2 cup sliced almonds

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour an 8-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add the vanilla extract and mix until combined.
  5. Alternately add the dry ingredients and the buttermilk to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients.
  6. Fold in the cherries and almonds. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
  7. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
