Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons almond extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • 1 cup heavy cream, chilled
  • 1/4 cup toasted almonds, chopped

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the almond extract and mix until combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture and mix until combined.
  6. Slowly add the cold water, 1 tablespoon at a time, until the dough forms a ball.
  7. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface and press into a 9-inch pie plate.
  8. Spread the frangipane mixture over the crust and bake for 30 minutes, or until golden brown.
  9. Let cool before topping with the whipped cream and almonds.
