Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 (14.5-ounce) can diced tomatoes
  • 1 (4-ounce) can diced green chiles
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1/4 cup slivered almonds
  • 1/4 cup sesame seeds
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped

Directions

  1. Heat the oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add the onions and garlic and cook until the onions are soft, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the cumin, coriander, oregano, cinnamon, chili powder, cayenne, and cloves and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  4. Add the tomatoes, green chiles, raisins, almonds, sesame seeds, cocoa powder, and honey. Simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Stir in the cilantro and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Serve hot.
