Fried Cheese Empanadas
Ingredients
2 large eggs
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 cup butter, melted
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup water
Vegetable oil for frying
Powdered sugar for dusting
Directions
In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, flour, baking powder, melted butter, sugar, and salt.
Slowly add the water and mix until the dough comes together.
On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough until it is smooth and elastic.
Cover and let the dough rest for 10 minutes.
Roll the dough out to a 1/8 inch thickness.
Using a knife or pizza cutter, cut the dough into 2-inch strips.
Heat the oil in a deep fryer or pot to 375 degrees F.
Carefully drop the strips into the hot oil one at a time and fry for 1-2 minutes, or until golden brown.
Remove the faworki from the oil with a slotted spoon and place on a paper towel-lined plate.
Once all of the faworki have been cooked, sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve immediately.
