Ingredients

  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, flour, baking powder, melted butter, sugar, and salt.
  2. Slowly add the water and mix until the dough comes together.
  3. On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough until it is smooth and elastic.
  4. Cover and let the dough rest for 10 minutes.
  5. Roll the dough out to a 1/8 inch thickness.
  6. Using a knife or pizza cutter, cut the dough into 2-inch strips.
  7. Heat the oil in a deep fryer or pot to 375 degrees F.
  8. Carefully drop the strips into the hot oil one at a time and fry for 1-2 minutes, or until golden brown.
  9. Remove the faworki from the oil with a slotted spoon and place on a paper towel-lined plate.
  10. Once all of the faworki have been cooked, sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve immediately.
