Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1/3 cup ice water
  • 3-4 large apples, peeled, cored, and sliced thin
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
  2. Add the cold cubed butter and mix with a pastry blender or your hands until the butter is in pea-sized chunks.
  3. Add the ice water and mix until the dough comes together. Shape the dough into a disc and wrap in plastic wrap.
  4. Refrigerate the dough for at least 1 hour or overnight.
  5. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Roll out the chilled dough on a lightly floured surface into a 12-inch (30 cm) circle.
  7. Arrange the apple slices in the center of the dough, leaving a 2-inch (5 cm) border.
  8. Sprinkle the apples with the sugar and cinnamon.
  9. Fold the edges of the dough over the apples, pleating as necessary.
  10. Brush the dough with the melted butter and sprinkle with the sugar.
  11. Bake for 30-35 minutes, until the crust is golden brown.
  12. Allow to cool before serving.
