Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 1/3 cup ice water
- 3-4 large apples, peeled, cored, and sliced thin
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
Directions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
- Add the cold cubed butter and mix with a pastry blender or your hands until the butter is in pea-sized chunks.
- Add the ice water and mix until the dough comes together. Shape the dough into a disc and wrap in plastic wrap.
- Refrigerate the dough for at least 1 hour or overnight.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Roll out the chilled dough on a lightly floured surface into a 12-inch (30 cm) circle.
- Arrange the apple slices in the center of the dough, leaving a 2-inch (5 cm) border.
- Sprinkle the apples with the sugar and cinnamon.
- Fold the edges of the dough over the apples, pleating as necessary.
- Brush the dough with the melted butter and sprinkle with the sugar.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, until the crust is golden brown.
- Allow to cool before serving.
