Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons fresh ginger, minced
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 carrots, chopped
- 2 stalks celery, chopped
- 2 teaspoons Chinese 5-spice powder
- 6 cups vegetable broth
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1/4 cup toasted sesame seeds
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
Directions
- Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the garlic, ginger, onion, carrots and celery and sauté for 5 minutes, or until the vegetables are softened.
- Add the Chinese 5-spice powder and sauté for 1 minute more.
- Add the vegetable broth, sea salt and black pepper and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes.
- Add the maple syrup, soy sauce, sesame seeds and cilantro and simmer for 5 minutes more.
- Serve warm.
