Ingredients

  • 1 quart milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Optional: 1/4 cup brandy or rum

Directions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together milk, sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, and ground nutmeg.
  2. Transfer the mixture to a medium saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture is thick and creamy.
  3. Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature.
  4. Pour the eggnog into a pitcher or individual servings glasses.
  5. Optional: stir in brandy or rum for extra flavor.
  6. Serve chilled and garnish with ground nutmeg.
