Ingredients
- 1 lb ground deer meat
- 1 cup maple syrup
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 2 cups self-rising flour
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
Directions
- In a large skillet, cook the deer meat over medium-high heat until browned. Drain off any excess fat.
- Add the maple syrup, flour, salt and pepper to the skillet. Stir until the mixture is combined and the gravy has thickened.
- Reduce the heat to low and stir in the butter, milk, garlic powder, onion powder and thyme. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- In a medium bowl, combine the self-rising flour and vegetable oil. Using your hands, mix the ingredients until a soft dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead it a few times. Roll the dough out until it’s about 1/2-inch thick.
- Cut the dough into 2-inch circles. Place the circles on a greased baking sheet.
- Bake the biscuits at 425 degrees Fahrenheit for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Serve the biscuits hot, topped with the deer maple gravy.
