Ingredients
1 tablespoon oil
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1 teaspoon minced ginger
1/2 teaspoon turmeric

Directions
Heat oil in a medium pot over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
Add garlic and ginger and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds.
Add turmeric, coriander, cayenne pepper, and garam masala. Stir to combine.
Add lentils and stir to coat in spices. Add broth and tomatoes and bring to a boil.
Reduce heat to low and simmer, uncovered, until lentils are tender, about 10 minutes.
Season with salt and pepper, to taste.
Stir in cilantro and serve.
