1 pound elbow macaroni
4 tablespoons butter
4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 1/2 cups milk
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 cup plain breadcrumbs (optional)
2 tablespoons melted butter (optional)
Directions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the macaroni according to package instructions.
Drain the macaroni and set aside.
In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and whisk until smooth.
Slowly whisk in the milk, stirring constantly until thickened and bubbling.
Stir in the garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper.
Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the cheddar cheese and Parmesan cheese until melted.
Stir the macaroni into the cheese sauce and pour into a 9x13 inch baking dish.
If using, combine the breadcrumbs and melted butter and sprinkle over the top of the macaroni and cheese.
Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
