The addition of amaretto liqueur adds a subtle nutty flavor and enhances the overall taste of the cake. This recipe is perfect for any special occasion or simply as a decadent treat. Serve it plain, or frost it with a delicious amaretto-infused buttercream for an extra touch of indulgence.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup almond flour
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • ½ cup amaretto liqueur
  • 1 ½ teaspoons almond extract
  • Amaretto Buttercream Frosting (optional)

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the almond flour, all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the almond extract.
  5. Alternate adding the dry ingredients and the milk to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  6. Gently stir in the amaretto liqueur until evenly incorporated.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then, transfer the cake to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Once the cake is completely cooled, you can frost it with Amaretto Buttercream Frosting if desired.
  11. To make the Amaretto Buttercream Frosting, beat together 1 cup unsalted butter (softened), 4 cups powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons amaretto liqueur, and 1 teaspoon almond extract until smooth and creamy.
  12. Frost the top and sides of the cake with the prepared frosting, using a spatula or piping bag to create decorative patterns or designs.
  13. Slice and serve the Amaretto Cake with a dollop of whipped cream or enjoy it as is!
