This sesame seed baked tofu recipe is a fantastic way to enjoy tofu! The tofu is marinated in a flavorful mixture of soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger, then coated in sesame seeds and baked until crispy on the outside. The result is a deliciously savory and nutty tofu that can be enjoyed on its own, in stir-fries, or added to salads. It's a healthy and satisfying plant-based protein option that will please both tofu lovers and skeptics.

Ingredients

  • 1 block of firm tofu
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 3 tablespoons sesame seeds

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Drain and press the tofu to remove excess moisture. Cut the tofu into 1/2-inch thick slices.
  3. In a shallow dish, combine soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Mix well.
  4. Place the tofu slices in the marinade and let them soak for at least 15 minutes, turning them over halfway through.
  5. In another shallow dish, spread out the sesame seeds.
  6. Remove each tofu slice from the marinade, allowing any excess liquid to drip off, and then press it into the sesame seeds to coat both sides evenly.
  7. Place the coated tofu slices on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the sesame seeds are golden brown and the tofu is firm and slightly crispy.
  9. Remove from the oven and let the tofu cool for a few minutes before serving.
  10. Enjoy the sesame seed baked tofu on its own, in stir-fries, or added to salads.
  11. Optional: Serve with a dipping sauce made from soy sauce, rice vinegar, and a pinch of sugar for extra flavor.
